The 1 oz gold coin Charles III Coronation, 2023 is specially designed by the Royal Mint to commemorate the coronation of His Majesty the King on May 6, 2023.
The obverse of the coin features the first coronation portrait of Charles III, created by British sculptor Martin Jennings and approved by the monarch himself.
The reverse of the coin, designed by John Bergdahl, features the royal monogram of King Charles III surrounded by a laurel wreath and the text "CORONATION OF KING CHARLES III 6 MAY 2023". This text, as well as the weight and purity of the coin, is repeated by microengraving around the edge. The Royal Cipher is the personal symbol of King Charles III, which consists of the intertwined initials "C" and "R" (standing for Charles, the King), with the numeral III in the center. Above it is the Tudor crown, an ancient symbol of the British monarchy, destroyed in 1649 but preserved in the heraldry of the royal family.
With its unique design and limited mintage of only 7,500 pieces, the "Coronation of Charles III" is a popular collector coin.
